Are Expensive engagement rings overrated?

When couples contemplating the purchase of expensive engagement rings emphasis should not be solely based on the cost, as opposed to the significant the engagement ring represents.  For example the 3 stone engagement ring can be priced above $10,000.00 dollars for a total 3 carat weight using a bar setting on a band of platinum, however because this ring symbolism is relevant to the relationships past, present and future many couple may feel the cost is worth it.  Yet even this 3 stone engagement ring can be down sized and still retain some value but for a much lower price. 

It’s true those financially capable couples will and can go to the extent of purchasing an expensive engagement ring and will seek styles and custom designs from well know jewelers such as Cartier, Tiffany’s, Tacori, Harry Wilson and Mark Schneider’s.  Shopping for an engagement ring in these circles, you’re guaranteed to spend a pretty penny for custom engagement ring sold through theses designers.  However this doesn’t mean the style is exclusive to that particular designer.  Although the engagement rings authentic version will have certification by the designer, couples can still duplicate the style but on a more reasonable price scale.   

Most average couples considering an expensive engagement ring have seen the rings style as a celebrity engagement ring. While many celebrities are already affluent, spending a great deal of money only represents the ability to do so verse the meaning behind the ring.  Just think about all the celebrities who have flaunted very expensive engagement rings but were never married, like Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck or Paris Hilton.   Each of these celebrity engagement rings cost in upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars if not more, yet only truly represented the cost more than the relationship between the couples. 

While many people adore the more expensive engagement rings, with the latest in technology and optional choices of stones, and metals, couples with budgets can still create their own engagement ring mocking the more expensive rings for a cost well within their budget.   And if the cost to build your own engagement ring is still out of financial reach looking for a lower quality stone and metal in a pre-existing ring will serve the same purpose as any expensive engagement ring.  Remember whether you buy and affordable engagement ring it’s not the cost that makes it the best engagement it the meaning it represents.  For this reason many people feel that expensive engagement rings are highly overrated.
